What Does the Bible
Mean by That?
The Bible
Read it to be wise. Study it to understand. LIVE it to know that the Christ walks
through same with thee. For, as He
gave, in righteousness may ye know those things that have been preserved from
the foundations of the worlds in thine own experience. -
262-60 Edgar
Cayce

When I was in sixth grade, a missionary came to
our school and offered a prize to the one who learned all the books of the
Bible. I did and I won. At age 13 I began reading the Bible in
earnest and read it completely through.
Of course, I didn’t understand a lot of what I read and found the
story of Lot and his daughters so
embarrassing that I hid the Bible when I saw my father coming. Yet, the Bible
has always held a great fascination for me.
When I began hearing celestial music in the 1960’s it was to passages
from the Bible. Though I was a theater major at Fordham University, my fascination with
the Bible led me to religion as a minor and eventually to a doctorate in
religion at Union. The first book: Genesis, and the last book,
The Revelation, fascinated me. Later I
learned that the sleeping Edgar Cayce had recommended reading those two books
together because they were the same story and everything else in-between was
a variation on the theme. Besides the
songs, which touched on almost every book of the Bible, my first extended
work was my musical on The Revelation that manifested as a full-blown gift
given to me. My work on Genesis, the
book: Let There Be Light, Creation and
Evolution in the Bible was more involved and included a line by line
analysis of every word.
