ARE Remembrances
- An Historic Photograph
|
|
While viewing a recent
showing of Steven Spielberg’s classic, The
Terminal, which centered around the famous photograph “A Great Day in Harlem,” of the jazz greats below, I was reminded of a famous photograph
of the original Economic Healing Group from the first ARE of York Center above.

In
The Terminal, the central
character, Tom Hanks, needed one more autograph, which he finally got, from
saxophonist, Benny Golson, to complete his father’s collection. In the Economic Healing Group photograph,
the final member, Daniel Livingston, completed the Father’s collection when
he joined the group on the other side on November 2,
2010.
At
least two members of the group in the photo, Dr. Harold Reilly and Mrs.
Lucille Kahn, were acquainted with Edgar Cayce and had been highlighted in
the Astral Projections Who Was Who Series June
2010 Issue .

Daniel Livingston
|
|
Daniel
was born on the same day that he departed, November 2, 1924
in Lubbock, Texas. He came
to the original ARE of New York in Chelsea that had been created by Hugh Lynne Cayce and
David Kahn in the 1960’s. He was a
member of the Wednesday night Prayer for Healing Group and he facilitated a
Monday Night Search for God enquirer’s group
With
the publication of Jess Stearn’s book, The
Sleeping Prophet, interest in the Cayce material grew and it became
necessary to seek larger quarters.
It was Danny who located two floors in a brownstone on 35th Street that became the new home of the ARE Center. Eventually he became
Co-Director of Council. His work
with the Prayer for Healing Group is documented in a book on healing by
reporter, Sally Harmon.
My
remembrances of Daniel Livingston during the early days of the first center
in Chelsea are documented in my book ARE
Remembrances (pps. 10, 50,
87). We were both members of the
Prayer for Healing Group, and he was one of the people who attended the
first New Year’s Eve Midnight Meditation that I initiated in the early 1960’s. Though I was the “baby” of the group, I
served as secretary of the council, of which he was a member.

Daniel’s Remembrances
|
|
As
the other remaining member of the first NY ARE affiliate, I felt it incumbent on me to encourage
recognition of Daniel’s contribution to the work as a way of passing on
history to the newcomers and honoring those who came before. This was realized at the 11th
Anniversary Celebration of the second ARE of NY on September, 27, 2008 when a special tribute was paid to Daniel for his
years of dedication and volunteer service to the NY ARE since the 1960’s.
|
|
At age 84 Daniel was living at DeWitt’s nursing
home on the East side, but he was mentally very much alert and loved to
have visitors. Both I and Pamela
Markley from the 35th Street ARE Center
visited with him and listened to his remembrances:
Elyse
Curtis and Daniel Livingston at DeWitt’s Nursing Home, summer 2008
|
|
Daniel
never wrote his memoirs, though he mentioned regretting it. However, he passed many of his
remembrances on to me and Pamela Markley whenever we visited him at
DeWitt’s Nursing Home. His remembrances, like the paintings of those left
by an artist, are more treasured now, as there will be no more. Because he is such an integral part of ARE history, they are being passed on to those who
did not know him.
When I visited Daniel, he
would just talk, as though conducting his own life review, so I began to
take notes (the insets):
And There are no
coincidences
· The manager of DeWitt’s Nursing Home is from Mexico. He came
to the New
York Center on 35th Street. He’s an
entrepreneur.
Connection to the Wife
of a Beatle
· Yoko Ono made a dress for Marlene Weiner.
On ACIM
· I prayed about “A Course in Miracles.” It’s a phony.
Shane Miller’s Art
· Shane made the logos for the signs in Horoscope Magazine. Sold them for $5 each.
· Shane had a dream of Jesus, who showed him the
color of his hair for his painting: Red and curly.
Hottentots
Danny
mentioned the Hottentots in the Cayce files (I thought he meant the
“things” the animal combination, the mixtures before Adamic man was formed
by the Lord God (Gen. 2:4). I searched Hottentot. One mention came up, but not as a
“thing.” It was in one of the great
discourses: 2780-3 that said all those who had not heard that “The Lord our God is one,” have been eliminated!)
Experiences in Healing
Group
· The floor fell away and the whole group at prayer
for healing was in the temple of Karnak, then in France.
(Personally,
I know the space: the meditation room in the Center in Chelsea, was indeed a time portal. I experienced it many times myself after
I moved in. I wrote about it in my book:
Are Remembrances.)
· A young boy who did not talk much was brought to
the healing group. After the prayers
for him, he surprised everyone by saying:
“healing group is going to heal me.”
· Journalist, Sally Harmon came to group and wrote a
book, We are All Healers,
inspired by group.
· I listen to Coast to Coast
· I miss the Prayer Group
On Who Was Who
Daniel
wanted to see the Who Was Who,
so I took a copy for him. He had no place to keep it, so I give him
selected information and he asked questions of who was who. He asked
who TJ (Gladys Davis’ nephew) had been. (I thought everybody
knew.) He said he knew TJ and they went to Monticello together (that should have been a clue.) He
also said he knew Gregg Cayce and then said something extremely complimentary
about him. I told him sadly that
Gregg had drowned. He was saddened.
· I knew the head of psychiatry at St. Lukes. He had seen every kind of psychic
phenomena, but would not tell anyone because they would not believe him.
Advise on the Psychic
Attacks
I
told him that I handled the psychic attacks I experienced by using the name
of Jesus and the cross as Cayce said, which made that person who
was out of the body disintegrate.) He told me it can also
be handled by laughing at them. (Never
heard that, but it makes sense since the goal of the psychic attacker is to
drain off one’s energy. Will pass it
on the Michael Archangel Support group.)
On Organizations
Daniel
also talked about Unity, how they had spread by licensing others to
form churches, then, Unity had problems, but that ARE did not do that and did not spread. I told
him that ARE has affiliates and is spreading. (He didn't
know that the New
York group
had incorporated on 16th St. Also, that the 16th St. Center had been a professional duplex dental
office before they moved in. I moved in there after the center moved
to 35th St.)
His Gem
· "We ought to be positive and not
judgmental. Watch what goes on and take notes, and then miracles
start to happen."
Elyse Curtis, Ph.D.

Highlights
from Daniel’s Conversations
with
Pamela Markley 9/12/08 at DeWitt’s
· I previewed
my next life.
· I’m
learning to be more heterosexual.
· Cayce said
man could live to be 120, minus 10%, that would be 108. People who lived a life of great pain did
not want to hear of reincarnation, would not want to hear of coming
back. So, at the peoples’ request,
God made the life span shorter.
· In one of
my past lives I was a secret agent.
· Bishop
William Alois – The King collected taxes in those days and was also the
charity collector, gave a certain amount to them to keep the people from
rioting. In that lifetime, I would
go out and pretend to be a sick person – Where were they spending this
money…wisely, or putting it in their own pockets?
· The A.R.E. started out as an organization to help
people. We have eight doors; it is
open to all religions…
· The Bible
of Mankind is a beautiful book
that expresses the Golden Rule in different religions…
· Every 72 years
the earth’s axis moves one degree.
You have to modify to keep your lead, or it will slide out from
underneath you over a length of time.
· The A.R.E. should be a teaching school, and go to
places to practice all for free.
· I am listed as a homeopathic educator
and had an account with one of the major companies. It was bought by an inferior company
named Boiron.
· My mother
died at 95. Queen Elizabeth’s mother
lived to be over 102 and she had her own homeopathic physician…….
· The night Andy Warhol was shot, we prayed for
him. I talked to the Prayer Group;
it was at the A.R.E. on 35th St. He pulled
through and lived a number of more years.
A woman shot him, a lesbian who did not like men.
· One night
when I was giving a lecture at the A.R.E., I saw auras of everyone in the
crowd, the full aura. I had to stop
because I had to keep focused on the meeting. Paul Mathis, our chiropractor, God bless
him, after the meeting he said “Who was that spirit onstage with you?” Paul had seen a figure, an entity. “He was very beautiful.” Other people said “That was a very fine
talk you gave.” Those stories are
too much vanity for me. So I have to
be careful about that.
Pamela: I remember that
night. I remember hearing this story.
· We were teaching meditation before Maharishi and
teaching better affirmations than Unity.
· Unity says: I am the perfect___________, and your
unconscious says “The Hell you are.”
· Cayce says:
“Father, help me to become the perfect ________. Let light, love and hope be the motivating
force.”
· We are not
saying it is already so. That is
like putting it over a volcano. It
will come and blow it up. We are not
already perfect. Some affirmation
makers cause more damage than they are worth sometimes. Cayce is very good with
affirmations.
· There have been two Off-Broadway shows about
Cayce, one of which was called “The Freak,” the other one was long before
my time at the A.R.E. in New York. The New York Times had an article on
Edgar Cayce in 1915.

About The Edgar Cayce Soul Group
|
|
A majority of persons
who had Life Readings from Edgar Cayce had incarnations in ancient Egypt around 10,500 -10,400 B.C. during the period when Ra-Ta (an
incarnation of Edgar Cayce) was the high priest. The Readings indicated that those people had been attracted to the work
of Edgar Cayce. Within this wide
group, was a smaller group of people, some of whom were physical relatives
who were intimately involved with Cayce in the development of the
Association of Research and Enlightenment.
Some members incarnated at various other times with Cayce, or
incarnated as a group weaving intricate patterns of karma to be met. They
incarnated as a group in Persia when Cayce was Uhjltd, the grandfather of Zoroaster, in the
court of the Louis’ in France and in Ft. Dearborn in early America. Many also
incarnated in Atlantis, during the Biblical exodus and the return from
captivity of the Jews, and when the master walked in the earth and during
the early Christian era.
All of the Readings were given file numbers, which preserved the identity of
the person to whom the Reading was given. For
anonymity all persons are identified by reading numbers, except in those
cases where individuals consented to be identified, or have been identified
in previous publications.

About
the Who Was Who
|
|
In
the early 1970's while I was living in Virginia Beach, I conceived the idea
to write a book about the incarnations of Edgar Cayce. I told Gladys Davis about this. She thought it was an excellent idea and
gave the project her blessings. In
the process of researching the lives of Edgar Cayce, because the material
was so fascinating, it was a major effort to stay focused and not get
caught up in a maze of characters from Atlantis to Early America and not
stray into those others side lives.
After months of research in the library, I came up with a synopsis
and outline of the chapters, which I submitted to Hugh Lynn and Gladys. Being a playwright, I used some of the
dramatic vernacular, like "setting the stage," the "cast of
characters," etc. Hugh Lynn
thought the book was a good idea, but felt that the time was not right,
because they hoped to have a film of Edgar Cayce coming out soon. He thought it would conflict with the
movie (which, unfortunately, never got made).
More
than twenty years later, the original research that I painstakingly did in
1973, before the readings were available on CD Rom, became the basis for
the Who Was Who. Published in 1996,
it not only documented the incarnations of the Edgar Cayce soul group, but
listed the complete 7,499 entries gleaned from the 1,919 Life Readings and
incarnations of others given through association. Relatives and
acquaintances often incarnated in the same eras and were advised to
parallel their Readings for past relationships, which was done in the Who
Was Who. With the exception of 150
universally recognized prominent personages, most of the incarnations were
of ordinary people. A few noted persons, like Nicodemus and Bartholomew
were mentioned in other types of readings for those individuals or in Life
Readings for other people. Judas was confirmed as being a present
acquaintance of one of the soul group.
Past lives of some prominent persons like Henry Ford (See [464]) and
the Duke of Windsor (See [3031]) (who were in the earth plane at the time
of the individual Readings) also came through. Most significantly, the past
incarnations of Jesus and many more of the characters that interacted with
Him, were identified by name. (Continued on pp (v-ix) of the Who Was Who)

The early
books printed by the ARE Press were booklets stapled in the middle and

were treasure troves of information on specific subjects gleaned from the

Those booklets, that are now collector’s items, became the
publishing model for Astral Projections Press books that focused on

The
Woman Taken in Adultery
Two
women from the Cayce files who intersected my present life had incarnated
during the time when the Master walked in the earth: the woman taken in
adultery of whom Jesus said, “Let him that is without sin cast the first
stone” (John 8.7) and the Syrophenician woman, whose name was given as
Anilen, who sought healing from Jesus for her daughter (Matt. 15:21-28, Mark 7:25-29)
Audrey Kargere, the one who appeared as the woman
taken in adultery has been previously highlighted along with Gloria Swanson
in the August
2010 Isssue.
Of those who
were healed or blessed, hers is the most surprising and outstanding story
when taken in the context of who she had been in the past and her importance
to humanity.
The
first apostle chosen, who had been highlighted with Gladys Davis Turner in
the July
2010 Issue, who witnessed the
Wedding at Cana where water was transformed into wine heralding the
beginning of the miracles, was instrumental in my own wedding graciously
hosted by the returned Syrophenician woman in her quarters in the former
Glad Helpers Meditation room at the ARE in Virginia Beach.
My
remembrances of Audrey before our last meeting are documented for posterity
in my book, ARE
Remembrances (p.15, 51) and
her past lives are in the Who Was Who
(1436-2).

|
|
The Syrophenician Woman
Ruth
DeCormis LeNoir, who appeared as
the Syrophenician woman who sought healing from Jesus for her daughter was one of the original members of the Glad Helpers
Prayer for Healing group of which she had been secretary since
1950. Ruth lived upstairs in the meditation room
of the old building in Virginia Beach where the original group met. As a member of the original New York
Prayer for healing group of the first center in Chelsea, I was extremely touched when Ruth
graciously hosted my wedding in the Glad Helpers Meditation room. The symbology of the marriage there evidenced
itself when my mate became one of the facilitators of the NY Prayer for
Healing Group.
In 1978, Ruth authored a book, When the Last Trumpet is Sounded, a collection of some of the most inspirational
passages given on the life of Jesus; his crucifixion and resurrection. She transitioned on 3/10/81, eight days before her
85th birthday after a life of service.
Her contribution as one of the original members of ASFG survives.
Research into Ruth’s past lives would not be
complete without research of the 262, Search for God series, and the 281
series on The Revelation; both series are extremely enlightening about the
subjects and the group members.
My remembrances of
Ruth LeNoir and the wedding in the upper room are documented on page (2-4). Healing
of the Syrophenician’s daughter by Jesus is
in Jesus II, The Miracles, along
with the other miracles performed by Jesus categorized by their
Transpersonal psychic realms, and her past lives
appear in the Who Was Who (0585-2).
