ARE Remembrances

Ruth Becker Fortel, friend and longtime volunteer archivist of ARE of New York Library, transitioned to the other side on October 5, 2011.  I met Ruth when she came to volunteer at the first affiliate after it moved to 35th St.  She enjoyed her work and was very meticulous and protective of the archives, carefully guarding the papers related to the history of the first ARE affiliate. She also joined the staff as a paid secretary from Headquarters when the center was in transition.  When the center on 35th St. closed, she was instrumental in saving the historical documents in her home.

Ruth was a longtime member of Search for God and also an artist who had regular gallery showings of her photographs.  I had the privilege of accompanying her to openings of her work.   She was also one of the original people to attend the premiere performance of The Revelation Musical and kept a tape of the show for the files.  She is mentioned on Page 53 in ARE Remembrances.

I wouldn’t be surprised to know that Ruth is now poring through, if not organizing, the archives in the Hall of Records!  Thanks, girl - EC

Best Wishes Ruth Fortel, Beloved Archivist

Happier Days in the Sunshine

Ruth Fortel, longtime Search For God and ARE member who began at the 35th St. Center is one of the longest serving volunteer member of the NY ARE after Daniel Livingston, and myself, who began volunteering at the 16th St. Center.  She has also been on payroll from Headquarters as Secretary of the center when it was in transition before closing.  Ruth has single-handedly cared for and preserved all the vital archives and faithfully transferred them to the second affiliate, where she resumed her role as volunteer librarian. As one of our important elders, she deserves our respect and thanks for all she has done over the years.  Hopefully, we will honor her someday by re-dedicating the library in her name.

Norman Curtis, Elyse Curtis,

Ruth Fortel

I am grateful for the archival history she has shared and the lecture she gave at Science of Light.  We wish her to know that we love her and keep her in our prayers through her infirmity. - EC

Response to Letter from Ruth Fortel - July 24, 2010

Letters

The heartwarming response from Ruth Fortel about our tribute to her reinforced our effort to continue honoring those deserving persons who have contributed so graciously.

Ruth Fortel also informed us that she is currently collecting and writing up her story with the ARE, starting with the first Search For God groups started on 35th St.  We still hope that some day the library will bear her name.

ARE REMEMBRANCES from My Fifty Years with the Edgar Cayce Work by Elyse Curtis, Ph. D. – This part I of her ARE journey follows Dr. Curtis’s involvement with the ARE, Cayce family members, those who knew him and ARE members in New York and Virginia Beach from her introduction in 1956 to her graduation from Atlantic University.  ISBN 1-891058-34-7 - $11.95  Go to Order Form Books/Music

First To the Classes… (254 series)

The early books printed by the ARE Press were booklets stapled in the middle and displayed face front for sale.  They were treasure troves of information on specific subjects gleaned from the akashic level by the sleeping Edgar Cayce.   Those booklets, that are now collector’s items, became the publishing model for Astral Projections Press books that focused on independently verifying that information.

*Astral Projections: An Honorable Mission

Based on the quote that one should share knowledge, the Astral Projections books, that based on purchase order invoices have consistently been best sellers in the ARE of New York Book store, are still available on line moderately priced and at member discount through study groups.  Books will also be highlighted in coming issues of Astral Projections open for discussion and Q&A as a way of sharing knowledge.  Books/Music
